From teenage torsos to Guardian Mothers: A powerful statement on women's rights and the future of our democracy.

These plaster casts represent three 18-year-old first-time voters, including my daughter. As they join the circle of "Guardian Mothers," they embody the strength and wisdom needed to protect hard-won freedoms.Witness the power of "Teenage Torsos & Guardian Mothers" at Dream Farm Commons, Oakland. In a time when women's rights are under threat, art becomes our voice. This piece honors the strength of women past, present, and future. It's a testament to the power of art in sparking crucial conversations about rights, representation, and the world we want to build.

When art meets activism: Empowering the next generation of voters! 💪

Hearts / Fists for Gaza

Solidarity_Strength

This sculptural painting honors Gaza's residents. Throughout the ongoing crisis, I've molded hearts and fists alongside diverse groups. I shaped left fists, for its proximity to the heart's main arterial network. The fist's form echoes a heart's shape. Fists also embody resistance and liberation.

Alter & Excavations Series

Using the ancient tradition of body casting alongside contemporary painting and videography, I explore identity and the act of claiming oneself. These projects aim to break taboos, share stories, and promote self-care. My goal is to establish a safe and inclusive space for conversations about comfort, care, gender, and sexuality.

UNSEEN TO SEEN: IMMERSIVE ARTS FESTIVAL

Videos encapsulating the whole Festival of Immersive Arts 2022.

Kimberlee Koym-Murteira invited groups and the public to create body casts of their hands for a part of the project named Gestures Toward Touch. The casts embody a physical manifestation of reconnection. Hands classically are said to be one of the most expressive parts of our body. They are also responsible for so much of the activation/engagement of our lives. As we leave the circumstance of the pandemic the act of making these plaster cast in groups and transforming remnants of people's bodies into fine art pieces to help bridge the many disruptions of the last few years.

The Virtual Real: Making in an Disembodied Times
Cal State East Bay Spring 2022

The embodied experience is evermore challenged in contemporary life; how do social media realities, and furthermore remote learning, shape us as artists and designers? The objective of this class is to contextualize and critically consider the various modalities of being in bodies - what does somatic work mean when so much of art making, being, learning happens in a virtual real?

Somatic Practice employs movement to integrate sensation and reflection. Brought awareness presencing the history of culture, story, fragility and power that a unique body possesses. Our class flows from body practice to art process. The course encourages students to develop new connections to understand artmaking from a different perspective, an invitation to find resonance in authentic voice.
During a time of dissociation, the class offers somatic connection.  Employs Isolation as an opportunity to connect deeper to self. Students
create collaborative and independent projects, outcomes include emerging media, installation and performance.
