Amidst the pandemic's solitary and erratic nature, connecting with the wilderness has been crucial. It helps me access my inner strength and acknowledge my place in the natural world as one of its many inhabitants. However, it's easy to become disconnected, so I seek out simplicity in both objects and experiences to find beauty and restore my sense of reverence

I utilized a 360-degree camera to document my walks and capture the beauty of my surroundings. The lens creates a magical microcosm, intensifying colors and producing optical distortion. This allowed me to capture the vastness and expansiveness of the landscape, while the circular shape provides both a sense of comfort and limitation. This effect seemed to reflect the self-containment and isolation that came with social distancing. Additionally, the filming technique created a feeling of disembodiment, as if I were floating through my environment.  All of these attributes translate the complexity I feel while walking in the forest.  While largely it is a calming experience,  the beauty is also haunted as it is under threat from millions of people who deny the reality of climate change.

I recently captured some Texas landscapes using a 360-degree camera, including my family's ranch which is currently being taken over by a quarry. As a child, I spent many holidays on this land, which provides solace and inspiration for my creative endeavors. It is disheartening to witness the transformation of this cherished childhood space, now being replaced by a noisy quarry that is turning the once-tranquil area into an unrecognizable terrain similar to the moon. The combination of the land's natural beauty, my family's care, and the act of creating in nature has had a deeply transformative effect on my life.
